The university sector in Germany is becoming increasingly complex. For instance, universities of applied sciences and Cooperative State Universities have been founded with a much stronger focus on applied competencies than traditional universities. To this date, there has been little research whether - and, if so, to what extent - attending different types of universities is related to early career success. In this study, it was investigated whether young professionals in the areas of economic sciences and technology who attended different types of universities (Cooperative State University DHBW, universities of applied sciences, and traditional universities) differed at an early stage of their professional career with regard to (a) the quality of their job characteristics, (b) their job- and life satisfaction, (c) their commitment concerning their organization and career, respectively, (d) their job performance, and (e) indicators of objective career success. Using data of 604 self - as well as colleague - and supervisor ratings, the results indicated that the type of university attended was unrelated to early career success.
