Talk by Dr. Ruben Aslan

Dr. Ruben Arslan from the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin (Germany) will give a talk on different open science initiatives.

Time: Monday, January 15th 2018, 14.00-15.30
Room: The Canteen at the 2nd floor of the Department of Psychology, Øster Farimagsgade 2A

Abstract:
Estimates from recent large-scale replication projects suggest that the majority of studies from top journals do not have replicable results. In related news, researchers were able to publish highly significant support for impossible phenomena using commonly accepted scientific research methods. Science as a system has issues, but can we use the scientific method to remedy them? A vibrant reform movement is seeking to do so, but it can be hard to keep track with all the suggestions to do better. I outline concrete plans and initiatives that seem to have the potential to lead to lasting improvements, such as the Open Science Framework, Registered Reports, the Peer Reviewer's Openness Initiative, preprints, post publication peer review, and guideline and incentive setting at the journal, hiring and funding level.
